Press Release: SL Media Acquires Ouray Climbing

Ouray Climbing – San Juan Mountain Guides – has been the premier provider of rock climbing, ice climbing, and skiing instruction in the San Juan Mountain Range since 1999. They were commonly known as “The Local Experts”.

SL Media is an acquirer of digital web assets with a portfolio of websites in the health, fitness, and outdoor niches.

On April 16, 2021, SL Media acquired Ouray Climbing to further bolster its position in the outdoor climbing space. Most of the original content from Ouray Climbing has been archived on this site (not accessible via the homepage).

What Did Ouray Climbing Do?

The Ouray Climbing website allowed outdoor enthusiasts to seek guiding instruction for several mountain sports in the San Juan Mountain Range. The site also produced high-quality content related to these sports, attracting over 100,000 visitors per month.

In 2021, Ouray Climbing stopped offering guiding services, leaving the informational content on the website remaining. Since Ouray Climbing’s main business activity was not digital publishing, they liquidated their website and content.

What Does SL Media Do?

SL Media acquires established content websites that have a strong audience and brand within their specific niche. After acquiring a website, SL Media grows the brand through their digital publishing and content marketing.

SL Media saw an opportunity to salvage the Ouray Climbing brand and re-build its audience within the climbing industry.

What Is The Next Chapter For Ouray Climbing?

To do that, the new team behind Ouray Climbing has been hard at work hiring expert writers.
