Feel the exhilaration of your first rock climb, learn to move fluidly
and confidently over stone, challenge yourself in a supportive and friendly
atmosphere. . . these are the hallmarks of San Juan Mountain Guides
rock climbing courses. Whether you’re a first time climber looking
for a safe and enjoyable introduction to the sport, or an experienced
climber seeking advanced instruction, we have courses to help you improve
your skills and expand your knowledge. Our 2-day Basic Rock Climbing
course introduces proper use of climbing equipment, traditional safety
precautions, climbing movement skills for a variety of situations including
crack and face climbs, rope handling, knots, belaying, and rappelling.
No experience is necessary. For more experienced climbers, our 3-day
Advanced Rock Craft course begins with a brief review of basic techniques
and safety principles, and rapidly progresses to instruction in advanced
concepts including anchor construction, multi-pitch systems, and lead
climbing. These courses are offered in two beautiful locations: the
craggy, limestone walls of the San Juan Mountains in Colorado; and the
spectacular, red sandstone cliffs around Moab, Utah.
