Our guides are professionally trained instructors with extensive personal and professional experience in mountain ranges around the world, and with clients from diverse backgrounds, ages, and ability levels. All of our guides are certified Wilderness First Responders and have formal training in climbing instruction, rigging, guiding, and avalanche hazard assessment. All of our guides live here year round and love showing off our backyard. SJMG GUIDES

Clint Cook: Clint is the Director and Head Guide at SJMG. He has been guiding professionally since 1999, and moved to Ouray in 2001. Clint is one of a few Americans to be internationally licensed as a UIAGM/IFMGA Certified Mountain Guide, and AMGA Certified Rock, Alpine, and Ski Mountaineering Guide. Clint has a B.S. in Natural Resources Recreation and Tourism from Colorado State University. Clint is a Board Member for the American Mountain Guides Association.
Mark Miller: Mark has been guiding in the Ouray area for nearly ten years, and has been a SJMG Senior Guide the last five. He is well known as one of the country's finest ice climbing instructors. Mark is an AMGA Certified Rock Guide as well as an important member of the Ouray Mountain Rescue Team and Ouray county EMS.
Mike O'Donnell: Mike is the founder of SJMG, and has more guiding experience than just about anyone around. He has successfully guided Everest and Cho Oyu, as well as numerous difficult ice and rock routes around the world. Mike is an AMGA Certified Alpine Guide and his charisma makes him a perennial favorite.
Mike Gibbs: Mike is a former Director at SJMG, and remains an important part of the guiding staff. He is an especially talented water ice instructor and has climbed and guided big routes around North America. Mike also runs his own high-angle rescue instructional company, and is one of the country's most experienced commercial and industrial riggers.

Bill Whitt: Bill has been guiding for SJMG for nearly 16 years.He has climbed numerous big walls from the tottering Fisher Towers to winter wall ascents in the Black Canyon. As one of the founders of the Ouray Ice Park and past Captain of Ouray Mountain Rescue, Bill has the local knowledge to guide you anywhere in the San Juans.

Kevin Kevin Koprek: Kevin has a B.A.S. degree in Recreation / Outdoor Education from the University of Minnesota, Duluth. He began guiding and teaching on the frigid north shore of Lake Superior in 1996. In 2000 Kevin completed the AMGA Top Rope Site Manager Certification. Since then he has worked with clients of all ages and abilities throughout North America. Kevin is also a lead guide on Denali with Mountain Trip.

Matt Wade: Matt began his guiding career in the Pacific Northwest while attending Pacific Lutheran University. He has guided backcountry skiing and technical climbing of all disciplines, from British Columbia to Bolivia. Matt holds advanced certifications in wilderness medicine, and avalanche hazard assessment. He is also the Expedition Coordinator for San Juan Mountain Guides’ Bolivia programs. Matt is an AMGA Certified Ski Mountaineering Guide and a Certified Rock Guide.

Chad Peele: Chad grew up in North Carolina where he first learned to rock climb. Since then he has traveled and guided thru out North and South America. Chad spends his winter’s ice guiding in Colorado and his summers in Alaska and Washington State where he is a lead guide on Denali and Mt. Rainier. Chad is an AMGA certified Rock & Alpine guide.

Ryan Cook: Ryan is usually the one answering the phones at the SJMG office during the day. If you miss her in the office she is probably out skiing, climbing, or hiking in her favorite mountains, the San Juans of Colorado!
