3-Day ART of
Canyoneering Course

Ouray, CO August 16-18, 2011

  ART of Canyoneering is a 3-day fast track workshop that covers material from the ACA’s Technical Canyoneering, Advanced and Self-Rescue curriculums. Participants learn and practice the critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills required to competently descend technical canyons.

Skills learned will prepare students for the ACA’s Canyon Leader and Professional Guide exams. Also highly recommended as an introduction to canyoneering for SAR team members and professional rock climbing guides.

Topics in the ART of Canyoneering Workshop will include:

  • Multi-purpose gear, selection and use
  • Honing your personal on-rope skills
  • Ascending, transitions and knot passing
  • Advanced anchors and rigging
  • Creative problem solving
  • Risk assessment and management
  • Rope systems for rappelling, lowering and traversing
  • Guided rappels and lowers
  • Guide rope rescue systems
  • Mechanical advantage for rescue and pothole escape
  • Tandem rappels and pick-off rescue
  • Site transition safety systems
  • Tips and tricks from Rich’s 30+ years canyoneering

Prerequisite: Technical Canyoneering Course or instructor permission

ACA Membership Included

Course includes lifetime membership in the American Canyoneering Association, which entitles you to course retakes, participation in national and international canyon rendezvous and access to our extensive technical canyoneering forums.

Additional details will be sent to participants upon receipt of course deposit. Group size is limited. It is set to a first registered first served basis. Spaces will not be held for anyone who hasn't paid the minimum deposit fee. Course Deposit is $150.00. Full Course fee is $425.00 per person.
