Personal Equipment Recommendations

This list includes gear recommendations for our most popular activities. These lists are not meant to be completely comprehensive as many students will add or delete items based upon personal gear preferences. If you have any questions regarding details of equipment specifications, please feel free to email or call us and we will assist you in your purchase and selection decisions.

Recommended personal gear for Ice Climbing:

  • Waterproof/breathable (W/B) shell jacket with hood
  • W/B shell pants or bibs
  • W/B Gloves or mittens
  • Spare pair of gloves or mittens
  • Wool or wool-blend socks
  • Gaiters
  • Fleece jacket/pullover or equivalent insulative layer
  • Top and bottom long underwear (medium weight)
  • Down jacket or equivalent belay coat (too warm for climbing but nice to have while standing around on a cold day)
  • Stocking cap or balaclava
  • Small backpack or daypack
  • Two quarts of water
  • Snacks
  • Sunblock
  • Camera/Film

  • Recommended personal gear for Rock Climbing:

  • Lighweight windbreaker or raincoat
  • Lightweight windpants or rainpants
  • Sunglasses
  • Ballcap for sun protection
  • Sunblock

  • Recommended personal gear for Alpine Climbing in Winter:
